Grenade Hydra 6 Protein Powder Review
Grenade Hydra 6 I’m going to start this Grenade Hydra 6 review by saying that it contains a lot of top quality ingredients. It’s a blend of two different proteins, isolates and hydrolysates, and also a mixture of micronutrients and digestive enzymes. At first glance, this seems to be one of the best protein powders from the Grenade range. However, it’s not quite as good as you might initially expect from a hyped up formula.
In the past, I have been a massive fan of Grenade. In fact, it was their Grenade Carb Killa protein bar that got me starting reviewing protein supplements again. This time around I have been trying out their current protein offering which is the Hydra 6 Protein Powder.
Protein is a staple supplement for every athlete and gym goer. Protein Isolate is a more refined form of protein that is cleaner, quicker to digest and very high in amino acids. Ultrafiltered Micellar Casein is a thick, creamy protein shake with sustained release protein to help you maximise those gains. But this review isn’t about protein as such, its about the Grenade Hydra 6 Protein Review. We like the new grenade protein as it makes protein taste good and doesn’t contain any of those nasty amino spiking scoundrels we’re used to seeing in our Whey Protein products.
Effectiveness
The first thing that hits me is the sweet ‘n’ sour scent of the powder. The first thing I tried to do at this point was open screwing around with my water bottle, but I couldn’t help myself. I wanted to know what Grenade Hydra 6 tasted like! I poured in a scoop of about 40g of water, which equated to about 2 scoops according to the container, and shook it up violently.
The next thing I look for in a protein powder is the amino acid content. This should be pretty high, as this is what this product is supposed to be primarily used for. Again, sadly, this isn’t very astoundingly high. For every 100g of powder, there are 817mg of amino acids. Now, you can argue that it’s actually not bad for a Whey Isolate based Protein powder. However, there are other Isolate powders out there that have higher levels of amino acids, which are just as great quality if not better.
Protein Per 100g, we are getting around 77g of protein. This is on the higher end of the scale. Again, the Casein will be contributing to this more than likely, but there is also a chance that some of it is coming from additional ingredients (at this stage, I don’t know what these are). To put this quantity in comparison to competitors on the market; Optimum Nutrition’s Gold Standard Whey contains only about 77g per 100g which is only 2% more than the Grenade Hydra 6.
The other positive we can take from Grenade Hydra 6 Protein Powder (which is very much a minority point) is that it does contain an impressive amount of 5.30g of Leucine, which is great for those looking to gain muscle mass.
This falls in line with Grenade’s claims of being low carb, however it does seem to be higher than most Whey Isolate only blends. The inclusion of lactose will also have an effect on this, as it’s a form of sugar. So, the macros are pretty good. We are getting higher fat due to the inclusion of more casein than expected, which is pushing both the fat and carb counts up. This is also affecting our calorie count.
Results
For me, the best thing about Grenade Hydra 6 is the amazing taste. Personally, I don’t like vanilla or chocolate protein powders, but this one just tastes so much better. It’s blend of chocolate and banana flavours are what makes it good. There are only natural ingredients used in this product, which is completely transparent due to being produced in an FDA registered facility. It’s low in carbs and fat, which I’m really happy about as these are two things that can be incredibly high in some other protein powders so you have to cut down your daily calories to account for it, which can put a massive dent away from your exercise regime if you have built up muscle so far.
so everyone gets to do we are doing a review of grenade hydro six protein, what is this this is just you know your standard kind of protein shake, protein powder whatever after your workout that you would take as all the others we have been doing. And if you’re wondering what this is similar to, the best thing I can probably explain or kind of relate to is I’m going to say like BSN since that Syntha six, just because that straight off the bat, everyone knows that that has multiple different types of protein in there. Hence the Syntha six and this is just again very simple. As always, we’re going to go through the ingredients and everything the macros and taste test shape test all good stuff. So let’s get straight into it. What I’m going to do though, is I’m going to put a big version of this on the screen just blow it up so you guys can follow along as we go through it. And just so you all know I am doing the chocolate charge flavour just so you know just so you can follow along. So in terms of macros in one sachet, which is a 40 gramme serving, we have 160 calories 30 of which is from fats, total fats is 3.5 of which is saturated, which is one gramme. Okay, not terrible, not amazing. I’m happy with that, and then you got some cholesterol. 10 milligrammes No biggie. The interesting part is you’ve then got total carbohydrates, eight grammes, which is quite high for protein powder, dietary fibre, less than one gramme and you’ve got two grammes of sugar which isn’t on the high end, I have seen some protein powders out there, which do have like six seven grammes of sugar to two grammes is kind of in the middle I have seen lower but you know, it’s not crazy high, then you’ve got protein 24 grammes standard, and then you’ve got some calcium and sodium. So straight off the bat macros looking pretty good. Overall, the serving size 39.5 grammes is a little bit on the high side, typically you do see around 30 grammes. But hey, that’s cool with me straight into the ingredients. Now, this is the interesting one. And you’ve got whey protein isolate, which is great, whether it’s isolate or hydrolyzed, you’re laughing to the bank. And then you’ve got Myrcella casein, which is the slow digesting protein. So you’ve got really fast acting absorbing isolette and then you’re slow digesting casein, which is really good, you know, you’re not then having to supplement with two different products. You’ve then got the non dairy creamer, which obviously gives it its flavour, its texture, stuff like that. And you see in brackets and then you’ve got from sunflower all the way down to soil ethane, and took a farewells. Now all of that is just for that non dairy creamer. I’m not going to go into all of them because it is what it is. It’s a little bit crappy that you’ve got some corn syrup solids in there which is basically another form of sugars. But that is what it is nothing you can really do about that straight after that though. You’ve then got your gluten free chocolate cookie pieces, which is kind of cool to see and then again that’s made up of rice flour, sugar. Where am I tapioca starch, cacao processed with alkali which is just a standard type of chocolate powder. So not to worry with that some palm oil, some cornstarch, salt, natural flavours, sodium bicarbonate, and soy lecithin. So again, the chocolate pieces and even made up of that bad stuff. I maybe would have thought that would have been more considering I would have thought there would have been more grammes per sugar considering where they’re ranking on the ingredients list. But hey, great to know that and then after that you’ve got natural artificial flavours, which is a little bit of a doozy, but again, not much you can do. As I’ve said before, they can hide so many things under that title of natural and artificial flavours. Then you’ve got the cacao powder Dutch process way, sodium fluoride, really not the best HLM potassium sucrose and silicone dextrose that’s silicon dioxide. So at the end, not the best. But hey, let’s get down into a mix test and see how it does. So just off this, just off the bat, it smells really good. Smells very chocolatey which is nice, especially if they are calling it chocolate charge. I’ve got 200 grammes of water in here. So what I’m gonna do isn’t gonna mix this up and then I’m going to pour it out into a glass just so everyone can see. Basically what it looks like kind of Have we got any floaters have we not? Straightaway as I’m shaking it Unknown Speaker 5:16 you can hear them chocolate pieces hitting the top which is kind of cool. So I’m assuming we’re gonna have some sinkers in this. There might be a lot of foam just because that nondairy foam that just because of the non dairy creamer but again let’s just see how we get on in terms of taste initially Okay, tastes quite sweet just off the bat but so in terms of first impressions everyone, this looks like a real I know it’s hard to see in here. This looks like a really good consistency just from what I’m seeing. You have got some of them chocolate chips which are floating on my side as you can see just there you got a tiny little bit of foam on top. But generally this looks like a really good protein shake so in terms of tastes so I’ve just got them chocolate pieces confirm one thing reminds me a little bit of cookies and cream that consistency which is kind of cool in terms of rounder tastes Amanda texture and consistency first. texture and consistency, super smooth, which is nice. But it does leave that grainy feeling in your mouth like you’ve got a coating of some stuff on there. So I feel like every time you have a drink you up, you feel like you’re having to clean your palate which isn’t amazing isn’t the nicest thing. But again, if you’re not bothered about that, then that’s good to know. In terms of the flavour taste the chocolate tastes fairly chocolatey I’ll give it that but it does just taste super sweet. So if you aren’t in a nice, good sweet chocolate flavoured protein, you’re not going to be you’re not going to go wrong with this Yeah, it tastes fine guys, my biggest issue with this store is having to clean my palate. But otherwise it tastes pretty good. You’re not going to be disappointed with the taste. The texture is really nice. It mixes really well. I’m not getting any floaters any clumps anything like that which is really good. Again, you got a load of cacao just sitting at the bottom in there as you can see just try not to pour it over the floor. But yeah, like so my biggest issue with this is just having to clean your palette in terms of cost and servings you’ve got like so you got the chocolate you got vanilla or strawberry you’ve got the Cookie don’t have classes cookies and cream or if it’s just cookie but it just says cookie something and then there’s also a peanut butter flavour and then cost per serving you’re looking at around $1 $1.10 So it’s not too high but yeah all around it’s a fairly in the middle protein if you can get this for a good price and it’s not going to break the bank or you’re kind of in a pickle and you just need some protein get that you’re not going to be you’re not going to be angry that you’ve got it so yeah, anyway everyone please subscribe down below please comment as well because it does help the channel to grow and more videos coming during COVID-19 So stay sane everyone
